Verse 4 has 4 phrases containing 22 narrator words. The first phrase has these 8 words ... Kai mē dunamenoi prosenegkai autō dia ton oxlon (And not being-able to-bring to-him because-of the crowd, ... ) The 8 words are top down. The 4 words including the 2 verbs "Kai mē dunamenoi prosenegkai" (And not being able to bring) are tangent to the missing but understood words "the paralytic and his bed." The pronoun "autō" (to him) enters the doorway holding Jesus. The words "ton oxlon" is tangent to "the crowd." The Unclean Spirit is not able to pass through the crowd, it is too wide to pass through the door of the house where Jesus is inside waiting for them to enter. They must find another way to get in. The 8 words have lifted the four bearers, the bed and boy onto the roof. The text now forces your imagination to fill in the gaps as to how everybody got up there in real life. 2:3 < Verses > 2:4b |
