Verse 13 has two phrases and 13 narrator words. The first phrase has these 7 words in this order ... Kai eggus ēn to pasxa tōn Ioudaiōn (And near was the Passover of the Jews, ...). The 7 words are bottom up. The words pasxa tōn Ioudaiōn (Passover of the Jews) is tangent to God's passover angel and to the Jews near it. The Jewish Passover was a high Sabbath kept in commemoration of the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt. It always began on the fourteenth of Nisan, sometime near the season of spring. The diagram shows the sign of the Passover above is approaching two Jews. It is "near" them, which matches what the text says. Jesus and the Passover will arive in verse 2:23. Jesus will be crucified during Passover near the end of this gospel. Jn 2:12b < Verse > Jn 2:13b |
