Verse 19 has three phrases containing these 5 narrator and 10 dialog words ... Apekrithē Iēsous kai eipen autois, "Lusate ton naon touton, kai en trisin hēmerais egerō auton" (Answered Jesus and said to them, "Destroy the sanctuary of this, and in three days I will raise it"). The 15 words are top down. The 4 Greek words"Lusate ton naon touton" (Destroy the sanctuary of this) are tangent to the head of Jesus. The dove sellers thought Jesus was protecting the temple sanctuary from them in diagram 2:16b, but he prophesied to them referring to his body as God's sanctuary. The last 6 words of phrase 3 "kai en trisin hēmerais egerō auton" (and in three days I will raise it) are tangent to his body where the sanctuary of the Temple should be. Jesus was making a prophesy that he would raise himself three days after being laid to rest in a tomb. Jesus was also showing he could raise the sanctuary of the Temple in addition to that of his body. Jn 2:18 < Verse > Jn 2:20a |
