The fourth phrase has these 6 narrator words ... kai ekei emeinan ou pollas hēmeras (and there they remained not many days). The 6 narrator words are bottom up. This gospel story began with the motif of going to a meeting after three days and now ends by going to another meeting and only remaining "not many days." The above diagram shows how the chiasm can be constructed. If three days is equivalent to "not many days" this story ends with a gematria chiasm. The pericope begins and ends with three days, foreshadowing the same period of time Jesus spent in the tomb before he was resurrected from the dead. Jesus is not shown in this diagram because he has already departed for Jerusalem in the next verse. Jn 2:12a < Verse > Jn 2:13a |
