Mk 14:72b ... a-second-time a-rooster sounded.

The 2nd phrase has these 3 narrator words, ... deuterou alektōr efōnēsen (a-second-time a-rooster sounded).

The 2nd phrase of 3 narrator words is top down tangent to the Roman soldier with his trumpet. The word "deuterou" (a-second-time) represents the second time the soldier sounded his trumpet after Simon denied knowing Jesus three times (14:71b). The word "alektōr" (rooster) was a Roman slang term for the soldier who sounded his trumpet once every three hour shift of guard duty called a watch. The punishment for sleeping during the night's watch was very severe. The word "efōnēsen" (sounded) meant the soldier's trumpet had called, similar to a rooster's call at day-break. Even though "efōnēsen" is commentary from the gospel author I color it as dialog. The diagram implies the trumpet sounded out far and wide from the large court-yard signaling the end of the night's watch, and Simon heard it. The prophecy Jesus made 41 verses ago (14:30c) at Gethsemene before his arrest was now fulfilled.
