The 2nd and 3rd phrases have these 9 narrator words, ... Kai meta mikron, palin oi parestōtes elegon tō Petrō [And after a-little (while), again the-ones having-stood-by said to-the Stone, ...].

The 9 narrator words are top down from where the maid departed, down to the two standing guards, then down to Simon the Stone. With the maid gone, the 9 narrator words compelled Simon to enter the courtyard to warm himself again. Now that Simon moved out of the forecourt, a new tenant could move in. After the maid left, the two guards had time to think, and what "they were going to say to the Stone" was even worse than what the maid had said.
