The 2nd and 3rd phrases have these 6 narrator and 4 dialog words, ... ērksato palin legein tois parestōsin hoti, "outos eks auton estin" (began again to-say to-the-ones having-stood-by that, "This-one out-of them is"). The 6 narrator and 4 dialog words are top down tangent from the maid, to the guards standing in the courtyard below her, then down to Simon in the forecourt. Simon hopes the dim light and further distance between him and the maid and the guards will protect him from being discovered as a disciple of Jesus. The next narrator word "hoti" (that), signified the unknown interval of time it took for the maid to more clearly recognize Simon and blurt out these 4 words, "This-one out-of them is." The word "this-one" refers to Simon. The words "is out-of them" refers to the 12 missing men but hypothetically present in the above diagram, Jesus being interrogated inside by her boss, Judas the betrayer, (unseen under Simon the denier), and the other 10 disciples who ran away when Jesus was arrested. 14:69a < Verses > 14:70a |
