Mk 3:16b-17a ... And he-layed-upon a-name to-the Simon, Stone, ...

Verse 16b-17 has 7 phrases and 27 narrator words. The first two phrases have these 6 words, ... kai epethēken onoma tō Simōni, Petron (and he-layed-upon a-name to-the Simon, Stone, ...).

The 6 words are top down. The three words "kai epethēken onoma" (And he-layed-upon a-name) are the beginning words of a new "inclusio" that will bracket a very important set of named apostles. An inclusio can be a word, title, term, or phrase, it is a literary device that brackets the text in between to inform the reader of an important theme. The words in this "inclusio" will all be Jesus (888) sized circles because it is Jesus who is forming, shaping, constructing, and "laying the names upon the apostles he is making." The word "epethēken" (to-place-upon) is formed from the preposition "epi" (on, upon) and the verb "tithēmi" (put, place, lay). The diagram shows Simon sitting down on the sign of "a stone." From this point on, Simon will almost always be referred to by his nick-name "Petros," meaning "Stone," or "the Stone."
