Mk 15:16a ... And the soldiers led him away into the courtyard, ...

Verse 16 has 3 phrases and 16 narrator words. The 1st phrase has these 8 words ... Hoi de stratiōtai apēgagon auton esō tēs aulēs (And the soldiers led away him into the courtyard, ...).

The 8 narrator words are bottom up. The two soldiers who scourged Jesus now lead him into a "courtyard," the hexagon assembly space of the Roman army in Jerusalem. The arms of the Star of David surrounding the praetorium serve as tents for the soldiers of the cohort.
