Mk 15:17a ... And they in-slipped him a-purple-(garment), ...

Verse 17 has 2 phrases and 10 narrator words. The 1st phrase has these 4 words ... Kai endiduskousin auton porfuran (And they in-slipped him a-purple, ... ).

The 4 narrator words are bottom up. The verb endiduskousin comes from en and duno, in the sense of slipping or sinking into a garment. The text doesn't say what the "purple" thing is. The direct object noun (garment) has to be supplied by the reader. The dye for the color purple was so expensive and rare it was reserved for kings, priests, and magistrates. One would think the soldiers should be protectiong the purple cloak instead of risk getting it stained with blood or damaged in any way. The bible concludes it's a purple cloak or robe. In this book of signs, it's a purple (888) circle covering the body of Jesus (888).
