The 2nd phrase has these 6 narrator words ... kai perititheasin autōi pleksantes akanthinon stefanon (and placed-upon to-him having-been-woven of-thorns a-wreath). The 6 narrator words are bottom up. The 4 words "kai perititheasin akanthinon stefanon" (and placed-upon a-wreath ~ of-thorns) are tangent to the triangles holding Jesus, the wreath, and the four foot soldiers. In Mark and Matthew (27:29), Jesus received his "wreath of thorns" after Pilate condemned him. The question of whether Jesus was wearing his crown of thorns when he was crucified is left to the imagination. Luke never mentions the crown of thorns. In John, after Pilate ordered the soldiers to scourge him, they wove him a wreath of thorns, then delivered him to Pilate again wearing his crown of thorns (Jn 19:1-2, 5). He was then escorted to Golgotha to be crucified, presumably wearing his "wreath of thorns" which is never mentioned again. 15:17a < Verse > 15:18a |
