Mk 14:47 ... But one of-the-ones having-stood-by having-drawn the short-sword, struck the slave of-the chief-priest and cut-off of-him the ear.

Verse 47 has 2 phrases containing 17 narrator words ... heis de tōn parestēkotōn spasamenos tēn maxairan epaisen ton doulon tou arxiereōs, kai afeilen autou to ōtarion (One but of the ones that stood near having drawn the short-sword, struck the slave of the chief priest and cut off of-him the ear).

The 1st phrase of 12 words are bottom up. The 2nd phrase of 5 words are top down. The two chief priests came with a crowd of temple police armed with short-swords and clubs to arrest Jesus. Roman soldiers were not present. Some of the ones that stood near with "maxairan" (short swords) were disciples of Jesus. According to Mark, one unnamed disciple with a short-sword cut off the ear of a slave of the chief priest. According to Matthew, a follower of Jesus cut off the ear. According to Luke, a disciple cuts off the right ear which Jesus then heals with a touch of his hand. According to John, Simon cuts off the right ear of the slave called Malchus. No disciple of Jesus who resists the arrest with violence is ever punished, probably because this whole incident was insider humor, the ear did not exist, only its location.
