The 4th and 5th phrases have these 8 narrator words ... kai met autou oxlos, meta maxairōn kai ksulōn (and with him a crowd, with short swords and clubs, ... ). The 8 narrator words are bottom up with all words tangent to the items they name. The words "kai met autou oxlos" (and with him a crowd) are tangent to Judas and a crowd of four men to the left and right above him. The 4 words "meta maxairon kai ksulon" (with short swords and clubs) are tangent to a pair of short-swords and clubs tangent to the four men. The text gives just enough information to draw a template for the verses that follow. The diagram shows that a crowd of only four temple policemen armed with "maxaira" (a short sword) and "ksulōn" (wood clubs) are all that is needed to arrest Jesus. The top two police point to their ears, that's also what they heard. 14:43a < Verses > 14:43c |
