Verse 18 has four phrases containing 14 narrator and 17 dialog words. The first phrase has these 9 narrator words ... Kai ēsan hoi mathētai Iōannou kai hoi farisaioi nēsteuontes (And came the disciples of John and the pharisees fasting). The 9 narrator words are top down. The number of words and their location in the sentence were composed to fit this diagram! The first five words are tangent to John the Baptist and his two disciples. The 2 words "hoi farisaioi" (the pharisees) are tangent to to the Pharisees. The last word "nēsteuontes" (fasting) is tangent to a basket of bread located as far from them as possible so by force they can not eat. John's disciples will later return in a story about his death and burial in chapter 6. 2:17b < Verses > 2:18b |
