The 3rd phrase has these 8 dialog words ... kai ouk eksestin soi arai ton krabbatton sou (and not is-it-lawful for-you to-carry the mat of-you). The 8 dialog words are top down from the three orthodox Jews to the one who was healed. The 3 words "ton krabbatton sou" (the mat of you) and the two words "Sabbaton estin" (A Sabbath it is) in the same place. The geometry is setting up an identity, the sign of "a mat" is identical to the sign of "a Sabbath." Jesus cured the man on a Sabbath which was against the Jewish religion of doing work on the Sabbath. Then Jesus told the man to pick up his mat and walk around to show everyone he was cured. After curing him, the man could not refuse to do what he was told, even if carrying the mat was against the Law. John 5:10a < Verses > John 5:11a |
