Jn 1:19a ... And this is the Testimony of John, ...

Verse 19 has four phrases containing 24 words, 21 narrator and 3 dialog words. The first phrase contains these 7 gospel text words ... Kai autē estin hē marturia tou Iōannou (And this is the Testimony of John, ...). Is John's "testimony" what he will subsequently say or the 57 words of testimony he gave in verses 15-18? The answer is both!

The 7 text words are bottom up. The 57 dialog words of John's prior testimony are top down, ... Houtos ēn hon eipon ho opisō mou erchomenos euprosthen mou gegonen hoti prōtos mou ēn / hoti ek tou pleromatos autou hemeis pantes elabomen kai karin anti karitos / hoti ho nomos dia Mōseōs edothē ē xaris kai ē alētheia dia Iēsou Xristou egeneto / Theon oudeis heōraken pōpote, monogenēs Theos Ho ōn eis ton kolpon tou patros ekeinos eksēgēsato (This One was he to whom I said, The One coming after me has become before me because prior to me he was. Because from his fullness we all received even Grace on top of Grace. Because the Law was given through Moses the 'Grace' and 'The Truth' came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, an only begotten God, the One being in the bosom of the Father, that one explained).
