Jn 1:25b ... "Why then do-you-baptize, if you not are the Christ, nor Elias, nor the Prophet?"

25b

The 2nd through 5th phrases have these 14 dialog words asked by the priests and Levites ... Ti oun baptizeis, ei su ouk ei ho Christos, oude Elias, oude ho profētēs ("Why then do-you-baptize, if you not are the Christ, nor Elias, nor the Prophet")?

The 14 words are bottom up. The Temple in Jerusalem practiced baptism when it received a proselyte from "paganism." John was baptizing Jews and pagans. The Pharisees wanted to know where John received the authority to do this. That's why they asked if he was the Mesaiah or a prophet.
