Verse 60 has two phrases containing 17 narrator words. The 1st phrase has these 10 narrator words ... Kai anastas ho arxiereus eis meson epērōtēsen ton Iēsoun legōn (And having stood up the chief priest into the midst questioned the Jesus saying ...). The 10 narrator words are top down. This verse never mentions the witnesses, the men the chief priest needs to testify against Jesus. The words are understood, supplied by the reader. In this part of the verse, the text says the chief priest "stood up" (anastas) into the midst (meson). One might ask "stood up into the midst of what or who? The above diagram and the context of what is written next supplies the answers. From verse 14:63 we learn he stood up on his two tunics (chitonas) that came from the two missing triangles (stones) next to two of the men.
