The 2nd phrase has the four disciples saying these 8 dialog words, ... eis ti hē apōleia autē tou muron gegonen ("Into what (reason has) the waste of this, of the ointment happened")? The 8 narrator words are top down, out to in. The text says eis ti (into what), possibly meaning why. The diagram shows the myrrh after its destruction. The previous verse showed the myrrh was poured on Jesus at that time for a seemingly unknown reason. To these disciples, the loss of the ointment off the head of Jesus then down to the ground was a huge waste of money. But to Jesus, the stated value had a priceless secret meaning. 14:4a < Verses > 14:5a |
