Mk 8:2a ... "I have compassion on the crowd, ..."

Verse 2 has three phrases and 15 dialog words. The first phrase has these 4 words ... Splagchnizomai epi ton ochlon ("I have compassion on the crowd, ...").

The 4 dialog words are top down. The verb splagchnizomai is a colloquial expression for having compassion. The word is derived from the noun splagchnon meaning "the heart, lungs, liver, spleen, stomach, and intestines." The bowels were regarded as the seat of love and compassion. The sign for the good abstract noun "compassion" is a white equilateral triangle. Three such signs are exactly tangent to the crowd. The words "ton ochlon" (the crowd) are exactly tangent to the signs of "compassion" and the crowd.
