Jn 11:38b ... Now it was a cave, ...

The second phrase has these 3 narrator words ... ēn de spēlaion (It was now a cave, ...).

The 3 narrator words are top down. The text doesn't mention Mary, Martha, or the Jews so they aren't shown. The 2 words "de spēlaion" (now a cave) are tangent to the opening behind "the stone." First century tombs had carved out rooms and rectangular doorways. We see the opening is not a typical rectangular tomb door, it is a fault in the rock formation. Now we see it is a "cave" (spelaion) being used as a tomb.
