Verse 8 has two phrases and these 8 narrator words ... Ou gar ēdei ti apokrithē, ekfoboi gar egenonto (Not for he knew what he said, terrified for they were). The 8 narrator words are bottom up. Mark, the narrator, in verse 5a confirms that Simon responded in some way to Jesus but he doesn't know or remember what he said or meant because he and the other two disciples were terrified.
