Verse 16 has two phrases and these 6 dialog words ... ei tis exei ota akouein, akoueto ("If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear"). The 6 words are top down. The crowd has apparently heard and understood the parable. Jesus dismisses his class into the bowl of the earth by pointing to his ears. Did you also hear? Jesus and the diagram are now in position for his next class of students. Apparently this verse was too impudent for many early Christian scribes to copy into the new bibles they were making. Like many Markan words of text that were too ironic or hard to fathom, they were simply not copied. Codex Sinaiticus for one omits it. Thank goodness for the others. 7:15b < Verses > 7:17a |
