Jn 1:40b ... and following to him.

The fourth phrase has these 3 narrator words ... kai akolouthesantōn autōi (and of following to him).

The 3 words are bottom up. After having heard from John, the pronoun "autōi" (to him) can only be John or Jesus. The formerly unnamed disciple must have been Andrew following Jesus back in Jn 1:37.
