Mk 15:23a ... And they-were-giving (it) to-him, myrrh-mixed-with wine.

Verse 23 has 3 phrases containing 9 narrator words. The 1st and 2nd phrase contains these 5 words, ... Kai edidoun autō esmurnismenon oinon [And they-were-giving (it) to-him, myrrh-mixed-with wine].

The 5 narrator words are top down. The verb esmurnismenon roughly means "mixed with myrrh." The ancients mixed a small part of myrrh into wine to give it a spicey fragrance and flavour. Offering a condemned man such an expensive treat was totally inconsistent with the way Romans crucified people. Note the soldiers did not give Jesus wine to drink, ["they-were-giving (it) to-him"] (offering and taunting) him with it, meaning they poured the myrrh-wine on his head, christening him with it, so he couldn't drink it!
