Verse 10 has these 9 narrator words ... eginōsken gar hoti dia fthonon, paradedōkeisan auton hoi archiereis (he-knew for that through envy, had-handed-(him)-over to-him the chief-priests). The first 5 narrator words are top down from Pilate to Jesus, then the last 4 are diagonally up to the chief priests. Pilate "knew" the Chief Priests were envious of Jesus in the previous diagram when Pilate called him "the King of the Jews." The Sanhedrists and chief priests were envious of Jesus because of the growing influence Jesus was having because of the fame of his miracles, the power and wisdom of his words, and his holy God-like character. The chief priests knew their influence over the people was being replaced by Jesus and that is why he needed to be given up to Pilate and sentenced to death. |
