Mk 5:37a ... And he did not permit anyone to follow together after him, ...

Verse 37 has 5 phrases and 18 narrator words. The first phrase has these 7 narrator words, ... Kai ouk afēken oudena met autou sunakolouthēsai (And not did he permit anyone after him to follow together, ...).

The 7 narrator words are bottom up. This verse Mark first says one thing then another. This is a very roundabout way of saying Jairos went ahead without Jesus to his house while Jesus stayed behind so the unnamed disciples of verse 5:31a could join him. The verb "sunakolouthēsai" comes from "sun" (together with) and "akoloutheō" (to follow, walk the same road). This word is a drawing instruction for the disciples that will follow him in the next diagram.
