Jn 5:16b ... because he was doing 'these things' on a Sabbath.

16

The third phrase has these 5 narrator words ... hoti tauta epoiei en Sabbatō (because 'these things' he was doing on a Sabbath).

The 5 words are in-line, out to in, tangent to the Sabbath. The term "tauta" (these things) refers to the 3 statements totaling 18 words Jesus said when he healed a man on the Sabbath. The first, in verse 8, were these 7 words: Egeire, apon ton krabatton sou kai peripatei (Rise, take your mat and walk around). Jesus himself did work by healing the man with his words and then telling him to do work. The second, in verse 14 were these 3 words ... Ide, hugiēs gegonas (Look, healthy you have become)! Jesus just admitted his words healed the man. The third, in verse 14, were these 8 words ... mekēti hamartane hina mē xeiron soi ti genētai (no more sin, so that no worse to you something happens). Jesus now committed blasphemy, claiming he had the power of God to forgive and punish sin. Jesus said "these 18 words" on the Sabbath. The next diagram will show Jesus said even more words on the Sabbath.
