Jn 5:14a ... After these-things, ...

Verse 14a has 8 phrases and 35 words. The 1st phrase having these 2 words, "Meta tauta" (After these-things) is a flashback, a command to look back at verses 5:10-12, containing the 33 dialog words the cured man had with the temple authorities after he was cured, ... Sabbaton estin, kai ouk eksestin soi arai ton krabbatton sou, Ho poiēsas me hugiē, ekeinos moi eipen, Aron ton krabatton sou kai peripatei. Tis estin o anthrōpos o eipōn soi, aron kai peripatei. ("A-Sabbath it-is! And not is-it-lawful for-you to-carry the mat of-you. The-one having-made me well, that-one to-me said, 'Take-up the mat of-you and walk-around.' Who is the man, the-one telling you, 'Take-up and walk-around'")?

The 2 narrator and 33 past dialog words are top down and just happen to fill the hexagram around the cured man! According to Jewish law, if anyone even unwittingly carried a burden on the Sabbath he was compelled to bring a sin offering to the temple. He already told the authorities he did not know who cured him. Did he go to make a sin offering or to give thanks to God for his cure? His appearance at the temple is evidence the authorities let him off easy in exchange for a sin offering. According to the authorities, the man sinned when he obeyed Jesus after Jesus cured him.
