Verse 32: The third and fourth phrases contain these 8 dialog words describing the descending Spirit, ... ōs peristeran eks ouranou, kai emeinen ep auton ("like a Dove out of Heaven, and 'it remained' on him"). Diagram 1: The 8 words are top down. The 4 words "ōs peristeran eks ouranou" (like a dove out of heaven) are tangent to "heaven" and to the equilateral triangle (the Spirit) holding the sign of the "Dove." The last 4 words "kai emeinen ep auton" (and it remained on him) are tangent to the "Holy Spirit" (the equilateral triangle), the face of the Dove, and the face of Jesus. The diagram shows Jesus holding the words "ep auton" (on him) in his hands. The Holy Spirit and Jesus are now holding each other. The Dove (it) is "on him" (Jesus) just like the words say. Diagram 2: Verses 32a2 and 32b have 4 narrative and 13 dialog words. The diagram shows the body and arms of John form a triangle of 17 words resting on the head of the Dove. The 3 words "peristeran emeinen ep" (a Dove it remained on) are tangent to the dove's head. The pronoun "it" can now refer to itself (the dove) on the head of Jesus or to the triangle of 17 words on it's own head. Jn 1:32a < Verses > Jn 1:33a |
