Verse 32 has two sentences composed inside 3 phrases and 17 words. The word "chōrion," the diminutive of "chora," is a small enclosed field or plot of land. The Aramaic name Gethsēmane means an "olive press." Today this small plot of land is called the "Garden of Gethsēmene," featuring a small grove of olive trees on the slope of the Mount of Olives overlooking the Dome of the Rock, the abomination erected where the Temple should stand. Diagram 1: The 1st phrase has these 8 top down narrator words ... Kai erxontai eis xōrion ou to onoma gethsēmani [And they come into a small enclosed field of which the name (is) Gethsemane]. The gospel text uses 8 words for this phrase, the perfect number and word order to put this little phrase "And they come into a field" to represent where the disciples enter the sign, then having the word chorion appear in the center of "the field," and then having the name Gethsemane appear in the white triangle, the sign for a name or title. The author then left out the unsaid but understood word "is" in order to keep the number of words in the first phrase to eight. This is only circumstantial evidence the gospel author composed this phrase with this diagram in mind. Diagram 2: The 1st phrase has these 8 top down narrator words ... Kai erxontai eis xōrion ou to onoma gethsēmani [And they come into a small enclosed field of which the name (is) Gethsemane]. The above diagram might be a sight gag. The 12 disciples are able to fill the same two gematria signs as the 8 words. The 4 words "ou to onoma gethsēmani" [of which the name (is) Gethsemane] is tangent to the 3 white triangles, the name Gethsēmane which means an "olive press." The disciples could be seen as olives, piled up inside a collection basket, ready to be pressed. The next nine words of this verse will explore that metaphore. 14:31b < Verses > 14:32b |
