The 6th phrase has these 4 dialog words, ... kai eksedeto auton geōrgois ("And he leased it to land workers, ..."). The 4 dialog words are top down. The vineyard "land workers" (geōrgois from "ge" (earth) and "ergon" (work) is a metaphor for the men of Judah, the chief priests, scribes, elders, and others who want Jesus dead. Most bibles translate the men as "tenants" which might be too lofty a term. Their former status was lowly earth diggers, weeders, vine tenders. The text implies that the men leasing the vineyard are lowclass, unqualified, and unworthy to be leaseholders. 12:1d < Verses > 12:1f |
