Verse 45 has 4 phrases and 29 narrative words. The first phrase has these 10 words, ... Ho de exelthōn ērxato kērussein polla kai diafēmizein ton logon (The one yet came out began to preach many things and spread thru the word, ...). The 10 words are bottom up. Verse 45 makes no sense if the healed leper is the subject. The leper was only given 5 words of dialog to speak by the narrator back in verse 40b. Jesus commanded the man "to offer a testimony to them" but "a testimony" for this cured leper is a hexagon filled with 7 dialog words. The narrator doesn't give the man a single word to preach after he was cured. The above diagram shows the 10 narrator words results in a dead end. Mark's Gospel by Donahue says there are major problems if the healed man is the subject. However with Jesus as the subject, when he came out and began to preach, the words spread through the diagrams, one after the other, phrase by phrase, so that the imagery of the words are tangent to the imagry in the diagrams. 1:44d < Verses > 1:45a2 |
