Verse 17 has two phrases containing 15 dialog words. The first phrase has these 6 words ... hoti ho nomos dia Mōseōs edothē ("Because the Law through Moses was given, ..."). The first 3 words spoken by John "hoti ho nomos" (Because the Law) are bottom up tangent to where "the Law" branches off in six directions. The last 3 words "dia Mōseōs edothē " (through Moses was given) are bottom up terminating at the lips of Moses. Verse 16 and 17a begin with hoti (because) to compare what the Jews received from Jesus to what the Jews were given through Moses. Jesus gave them Grace, Moses gave them the Law. But Moses is dead, only Jesus has more to give. Jn 1:16 < Verse > Jn 1:17b |
