Verse 12 has 4 phrases and 17 dialog words. The 1st phrase has these 6 dialog words ... "Kai paradōsei adelfos adelfon eis thanaton, ..." ("And will give a brother a brother (beside him) into death, ..."). The 6 dialog words are top down. It's hard to say what brother to brother betrayal the narrator refers. The disciples referred to each other as brothers even if they were not related. There were also two sets of natural brothers among the twelve disciples. In the Roman Jewish war to come, many Jews fought other Jews, a civil war of brother against brother for the sake of power. On another level, maybe the narrator viewed Judas as a brother Christian who handed Jesus over to death to a crowd sent by the the chief priests (Mk 14:43-44). 13:11d < Verses > 13:12b |
