Verse 31 has six phrases containing 16 words. The first phrase has these 5 narrator words, ... Kai dielogizonto pros eautous legontes (And they were discussing with themselves saying, ...).

The 5 narrator words are top down, out to in. The scribes and elders were discussing their possible answers with the priests. The next three diagrams will show no matter how they answered, Jesus had them trapped.
