Mk 9:34 ... Yet they were being silent with one another, for they argued in the way who was greater.

Verse 34 has two phrases containing these 12 narrator words ... Oi de esiōpōn pros allēlous gar dielexthēsan en tē hodō tis meizōn (Yet they were being silent with one another, for they argued in the way who (was) greater).

The 12 narrator words are bottom up. The 5 words of the first phrase are not tangent to anyones ears because these disciples were not speaking to each other in the present tense. The 7 words in the second phrase are tangent to their ears because they were arguing in the way in the past. The 4 words "gar dielexthēsan pros allēlous" (for they argued with one another) are tangent to all three disciples. The 3 words "en tē hodō" are tangent to "the way." The number and placement of these 12 words were composed to fit this diagram.

9:33c < Verses > 9:35a
