Mk 9:32a ... But they did not know the prediction, ...

Verse 32 contains two phrases and 9 words. The first phrase has these 5 narrator words ... hoi de hēgnooun to rhēma (They but did not know the prediction).

The 5 narrator words are bottom up. The diagram shows the three disciples did not know (hēgnooun) the rhēma (what was said, the discourse, prediction) for this reason: Although they were present in the last two diagrams (31c-d) where Jesus said the prophesy, the words of the prophesy could not reach their ears because they were in a sound shadow. The white equilateral triangle is the sign of the abstract noun "rhēma" (a prediction). The circle inside the white equilateral triangle that says "prediction" contains all the words of the prophesy: ("and they will kill him and having been killed, after three days he will stand up").
