Verse 5 has 4 phrases and 20 dialog words. The 1st and 2nd phrases have these 11 words ... kai allo epesen epi to petrōdes hopou ouk eichen gēn pollēn ["And other (seed) fell on the rocky-place, where not did-it-have soil much, ..."]. The 11 dialog words are top down. The 3 words "kai allo epesen" (and other fell) have a missing but understood word (a seed) that gives sense to the phrase. The next 3 words "to petrōdes hopou" (the rock-like place where) are a mirror image tangent to the equilateral triangle below filled with rocks and not much soil. The noun "petrodes" comes from petra (rock) and odes, eidos (a suffix meaning similarity, a form, a shape, a place), meaning "a rock formation, an outcropping, a rocky place. The 4 words "ouk eichen gēn pollēn" (not did-it-have soil much) have the pronoun "it" (the seed) that is tangent top and bottom to the equilateral triangle of "soil" holding the "rocky-place." The next half of the verse will tell what happens to this one of many seeds that fell beside "the way." 4:4b < Verses > 4:5b |
