Courtyard - aule

Definition: proaulion, aule (ow-lay') Noun, Feminine - an uncovered space around the house, enclosed by a wall. The dwellings of the higher classes usually had two courts, one outside, between the door and the street; the other inside, enclosed by the walls and buildings of the dwelling itself.
