Verse 19 has the following 8 gospel text words ... Kai hotan opse egeneto, ekseporeuonto eksō tēs poleōs (And when late it became, out he went outside the city). The 8 words are bottom up. Some ancient manuscripts read "out he went" (exeporeueto), others read "out they went" (exeporeuonto). Based on the context in the next pericope, Jesus left the city at "opse" (late, evening), the first watch of the night, hours 1 to 3 (6 to 9 pm), when it was getting dark. The disciples had a rendezvous with him in the morning at the cursed fig tree. The twelve will come out later, in the light of the morning from the bottom of the graph in the next verse.
