The third sentence have these 3 narrator words in this exact order ... Efobounto gar auton (they feared for him, ...).

The 3 narrator words are bottom up. The conjunction "gar" (for, because) appears in the middle of the three words in Greek, but for an English translation it comes first. That's the only way the plural "Efobounto gar" (because ~ they feared) could appear tangent to the den holding the four officials at the bottom and the accusative singular object "auton" (him) could appear tangent to Jesus at the top.
