Mk 8:31a ... And he began to teach them, ...

Verse 31 is all gospel narrative, containing seven phrases and 30 narrator words. The first phrase has these 4 words ... Kai hēksato didaskein autous (And he began to teach them ...).

The 4 narrator words are top down. The text says Jesus began (erxato) his "teaching" (signified by equilateral triangles). The diagram shows two pairs of text circles inside the two teaching triangles. The diagrams that follow constitute the first of three prophesies he makes to the twelve about his impending death and resurrection.
