Jn 6:14a ... Therefore the men having seen what sign he did were saying that, ...

Verse 14 has three phrases containing 19 words. The first phrase has these 9 narrator words in this unusual word order ... "Oi oun anthrōpoi idontes ho epoiēsen sēmeion elegon hoti" (Therefore the men having seen what he did sign were saying that, ...).

The 9 narrator words are bottom up. The first six words "Oi oun anthrōpoi idontes ho epoiēsen" (Therefore the men having seen what he did) are tangent to the 12 men. The last 3 words "sēmeion elegon hoti" (sign were saying that) are tangent to a sign filled with fish and loaves. The first phrase is a drawing instruction to make a sign signifying the miracle Jesus just performed, the multiplication of loaves and fishes, and the fragments that fill the baskets. The diagram shows that the sign is two equilateral triangles that form a large rhombus. Then many fish fragments form a mosaic tangent to the inside of the large "sign." Then a basket of loaves fits exactly inside the rhombus. The twelve men, the nine words, and "the sign" fill the diagram top to bottom.
