Mk 1:14a ... Yet~after the hand-over of John, ...

Mark 1:14a

Verse 14 has two phrases and 17 narrator words. The first phrase has these 6 words ... Meta de to paradothēnai ton Iōannēn (After yet the handing over of John, ...).

The 6 words are top down. The text says John was "given beside" (paradidōmi), an expression meaning "to hand something over." This is paraphrased in most bibles as "after John was imprisoned" because Herod later arrests John and puts him in a "watch" (Mark 6:17). The diagram shows six gospel words extending from God and the Holy Spirit to the sign of a 'watch' (phulake) into which John is imprisoned. The text will later explain John brought it on himself because he told Herod it was not permissible for him to marry the wife of his brother (Mk 6:18). Let's just assume God allowed his arrest to happen.
