Sunday - Sabbaton

Definition:
Sabbatōn (to sab'-bat-on) Noun, Neuter - First day of the week, Sunday.
a) The first century Holy Land was populated by people speaking Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. The Aramaic word for Sabbath is "sabbata" (singular).
b) To the Greeks "sabbata" sounded like the plural of an imaginary Greek word "sabbaton" (neuter, singular). When Greeks wanted to say "Sabbaths," they took the plural of "sabbaton," which is "sabbata" (neuter plural).
So "sabbata" means both "Sabbath" and "Sabbaths."
c) The Hebrew word for Sabbath is "shabbat" which sounds like "sheva," the word for seven. Linking the words by alliteration, the Jews then used the word "Sabbath" to represent the concept of a "week." And the Greeks followed suit. Read this link: Sabbath History
