Sadducees - Saddoukaios

Definition: Sadducees (sad-doo-kah'-yos) Noun, Masculine - "the righteous;" a religious party at the time of Christ among the Jews, who denied that the oral law was a revelation of God to the Israelites, and who deemed the written law alone to be obligatory on the nation as the divine authority. They denied resurrection of the body, immortality of the soul, existence of spirits and angels, divine predestination, and affirmed free will. The name "sadducees" is only mentioned once in Mark's gospel.

Diagram: The arbitrary sign of a Sadducee is a man with black hair and green eyes.

Mk 12:18a Then come unto him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection.
