Pillow - proskefalaion

Thing for the Head - proskephalaion

Definition: Proskefalaion (pros-kef-al'-ahee-on) - Noun, neuter; Pillow. The compound noun proskephalaion, from the preposition pros (with regard to, before) and the noun kephalaion (thing for the head), akin to the adjective kefalaios, is translated in most bibles and lexicons as a cushion or pillow. An alternate meaning is "head, anything supreme of persons or things, a corner-stone, the main point."

Diagram: The equilateral triangle denotes the "stern" of a ship and the white Christ (1480) circle is the sign of a "pillow." If Jesus was sleeping in the stern of a ship he would automatically be "sleeping down" in regard to the ship. Stern and pillow are only used once in the Gospel of Mark.

Mk 04:38a And he was in the "stern" on the "pillow" sleeping down.
