Alabaster - alabastron

Definition: Alabastron (al-ab'-as-tron) Noun, Neuter - Alabaster, a white translucent stone.
Diagram: The Greek text doesn't say what kind of container held the perfume. That abstract detail is left to the imagination of the reader. Since alabaster is a white stone, perhaps its sign is the same sign as a "stone," the nickname of Simon. Could there be wordplay going on here? After all this alabaster is broken in the house of Simon (another Stone)? Until proven otherwise, the sign of an "alabaster" is a white equilateral triangle, the same sign as a "stone (petros)."
| Mk 14:03c |
A woman came having an "alabaster" of myrrh,
pure costly nard. |
| Mk 14:03e |
Crushing the "alabaster,"
she poured it down on his head. |
