Mk 15:34a ... And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a great voice loudly, ...

Book Announcement

The previous verse stated that darkness came over the whole land from 12 to 3 pm. The time is now 3 pm and it is still dark “over the whole land.” The diagram shows a way of drawing the nine hours so that the crucified Jesus is temporarily obscured from view. Jesus only has moments to live.

Mk 15:34b ... Eloi, Eloi lama sabachthani? ... which is being interpreted ... My God, my God, why did you forsake me?

Book Announcement

The OT source text for the words of Jesus come from Psalm 22:1 which reads: “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” The word play in this part of the verse is that Eloi, meaning "My God," sounds like an exhausted person calling out the name "Elias." The diagram shows that God hears Jesus through Elias, which can be interpreted by the viewer as God forsaking Jesus.
